Justice Through Art: A Convergence of Creatives
September 26, 2015
Author Bill Wisecarver was invited to discuss his novel, Resurrection – Americans Awaken at the Left of Center Art Gallery symposium “Justice Through Art: A Convergence of Creatives” sponsored by the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. The focus of the event was to demonstrate how art and education advance awareness to find solutions for the issues impacting our community and our nation.
Bill discussed how his novel promotes social justice and burning the myths — racial, economic and political—that blind us to social justice today.
“Only in art can the concept of social justice be kept alive. Art lies like an iceberg throughout civilization—providing us a guidepost to the angels of our better nature, as Shakespeare called it. In the world we live in today, the truth of art has never been needed more.”
Wisecarver encouraged the audience to reevaluate the path we are on, understand where we have been and understand where we are going.
“Follow your passion – share the truth of the art within each of you. Let us all join together in your art and together we shall evolve—as a nation and as a people.”
